About Hans Päpke

Hans Päpke was born in Neubrandenburg, Germany in 1937. After graduating from the Folkwang Akademie, Hans worked in advertising, creating designs for BMW, Volkswagen and Coca-Cola, as well as designing spaces for their offices and convention displays. When Hans married his wife, Ute, in 1963, he moved to the United States. Hans began his long career with Cincinnati Gas & Electric, now Duke Energy. Though having limited English skills, but an impressive Art Portfolio, he was promoted to manager of Public Affairs at CG&E. Hans was also in charge of the Holiday Train Display, a traditional holiday event attended by thousands for 49 years. Hans was chosen by two corporations and a business group to design three pigs for Cincinnati's Big Pig Gig in 2000. Hans has designed furniture and a personal garden that features many of his intriguing sculptures.
